Arbol of Malacandra
Classification: Humanoid
Gender: Male
Species: Malacandran (Ancient Martian)
Affiliation: Starfleet
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: Determined, supportive, couragous, intelligent
Weaknesses: Enigmatic, distant, loner
Personality
For the most part, Arbol is taciturn and remote. It is uncertain whether this is natural for his species or due to being one of the few surviving Malacandrans. While he is often the quietest member of any team, he is usually one of the first to welcome and assist new members. He has frequently assisted less experienced team mates, both as a cadet and throughout his Starfleet career.
Hobbies and Pastimes
Since he was revived, Arbol has taken an interest in human literature and is fascinated by their development during his time in stasis. He still retains an interest in more primitive cultures and keeps up to date with Federation projects studying them. He continues to adhere to his beliefs and regularly meditates in his quarters on the wisdom of the Seroni.
Biography
In 2393, the remnants of a mysterious artefact were discovered by two hikers from the remote New Bedford colony. Excavation of the area was begun by archaeologists from Utopia Colony and the remains of an ancient city were found. In 2394, the archaeological team discovered faint traces of a power signature underground. The power came from what appeared to be a stasis device. Inside were thirty six green humanoids from a species that was not in Starfleet’s databases. After some deliberation, the mysterious green people were awakened. They were sick, but with help from Starfleet’s xenobiologists they would survive. One of them began to speak in what the universal translator identified as Latin. He explained that his name was Arbol and that he was from Malacandra, or as humans know it, Mars.
Arbol was born in the Malacandran city of Harandra around 79 BC. He was a philosopher, anthropologist and scientist, spending much of his time studying the primitive human societies on nearby Earth. In 235 AD, Arbol discovered a secret cadre of rebel Malacandrans, hiding on Earth. The rebels were planning to enslave the native humans and declare war on their peaceful home. Arbol exposed the plan to the ruling council, who captured the rebels and removed them from Earth before they could enact their scheme. However, before they could go to trial, the rebels released a deadly bio toxin into the Martian atmosphere, preferring the genocide of their own people to captivity. Arbol and thirty five others were still on Earth at the time, decommissioning the rebel base. Arriving back on Mars, they discovered the tragedy that had befallen their people. Finding themselves stricken with the same bio toxin, they went into stasis, hoping that in the future they might be cured but knowing they would probably never wake again.
After spending time with Starfleet scientists and scholars at Utopia colony, Arbol decided that he would like to join Starfleet so that he could see the many new life forms that inhabit the galaxy.
Starfleet Career
Starfleet Academy
In 2395, Arbol was accepted into Starfleet Academy. Initially, he found it difficult to fit in with other cadets due to being much older and unaccustomed to the many different species there. However, he excelled at various biological sciences and had a natural aptitude for tactical strategy. During the latter half of his time at the Academy he helped several new cadets settle in to life there.
USS Erdel
After graduation, Arbol was promoted to Ensign and assigned to the xeno-biology department of the USS Erdel, a science vessel mapping unexplored regions close to the Neutral Zone. Life on the frontiers of Federation space allowed Arbol to recapture some of the life he had studying humanity, a life he had lost with the death of his people. His experience was valuable in helping many of his crew mates adjust to their first time outside of the Federation. In time, however, he began to realise that he could never truly recapture his old life and began to seek new opportunities in Starfleet.
In 2403, while the Erdel was undergoing routine maintenance at Starbase 49, Arbol discovered a Romulan plot to blow up the Starbase. Starfleet Criminal Investigative Service (SCIS) agents were also on the case and together they foiled the plot. Arbol was injured protecting one of the agents from Romulan disruptor fire, for which he was awarded the Starfleet Decoration for Gallantry. The lead agent recommended Arbol for SCIS duty upon his recovery and Arbol transferred to their nearest field office.
SCIS
As part of SCIS, Arbol demonstrated a natural aptitude for uncovering and unravelling conspiracies. His duties frequently find him confronting everyone from murderers to enemies of the Federation. Arbol has been frequently cited for bravery. In 2407, Arbol began training new field agents, both Starfleet and civilians.
Knights Templar
In 2409, Arbol was transferred to the Knights Templar Fleet and given command of one of it’s vessels. Details of the ship, including it’s name and registry are classified. Arbol requested Victoria Shepard as his First Officer and selected his crew with her help.

Physiology
Malacandrans are a green skinned, humanoid species with distinctive glowing red eyes. They are naturally telepathic, often sharing knowledge and experiences with each other, though there are cultural taboos regarding unsolicited telepathic contact. Due to the darker conditions on Mars, Malacandrans evolved with highly developed night vision.
Starfleet Medical is still in the process of studying Malacandran physiology in detail.
Medical Notes
2394 - Revived from suspended animation and treated for exposure to an unknown bio toxin.
2403 - Treated for severe disruptor injuries, made full recovery.
