The Luna Class USS Luna(NCC-94105) is the first Luna Class ship in Second Fleet, and the first Luna Class ship refit for both combat and exploration. As of 2408, Captain Arachnidus is in command of the ship. It is named after Earths moon, and inherited the name from the USS Luna, the pathfinder of the Luna class ship which was destroyed in the early 2370's.

Design Record
The USS Luna was a Luna class starship commissioned in 2391. Designed as a second generation Luna class ship, the Luna was developed to improve upon it's predecessor, produced in the late 2370s. The ship was named after it's forerunner and class prototype, destroyed in 2378 during a propulsion test. The Luna was constructed in the Utopia Planaetia shipyards, with the christening done in 2391.
Project: New Frontiers
Originally under the Captaincy of Captain Dave Miller, the Luna was highly successful in it's seven year mission of exploration. The operation, dubbed Project: New Frontiers was commissioned with the objective of mapping out several different stellar phenomena and worlds within the unexplored boundaries of the Alpha and Beta quadrants. Following in the tracks of the USS Titan, Luna made first contact with over 25 different warp capable species(12 of them non-humanoid) in the course of it's mission. The ship made other numerous discoveries due to it's nature as a testbed starship, using numerous technologies that were fresh out of the Starfleet labs and the Daystrom Institute. In 2398, the ship fulfilled it's first mission by returning to Earth using one of the newer Type III slipstream drives. In the course of 15 days, the ship returned to home through the same course that it took seven years to path-find.
A New Captain
Arachnidus 'Vadam served on the Luna since it's first launch in 2391, and was often regarded with distinction amongst his fellow crew mates and friends. It was that which earned him the position of first officer as a Commander on board the Luna in 2398, at the end of Project: New Frontiers. At the turn of the century, however, the normally brave, joyous adventures on the ship of exploration took a turn for the worst when Captain Miller was killed in a tragic malfunction of his cabin's toilet. On January 13th, 2400, Arachnidus was promoted to the Captain's chair and put in command of the Luna. With this promotion, the ship was brought into service in the Second Fleet. To this date, the Luna still serves in the Second Fleet under Rear Admiral Arachnidus' flag, and operates as a ship of diplomacy and exploration.
