Cyrus Grissim started out life as an orphan, and at some point in his youth signed up for the Starfleet Academy, however as he was a young and bitter individual so he found it hard to fit in, however he was able to graduate and make it out of the Starfleet Academy at the rank of Ensign.
Three years into his career he was court-martialed for murder as he had killed a superior officer, however before he could be prosecuted for the crime he managed to escape.
After this the whereabouts and any information regarding him soon dried up and eventually very little was known about him and he was almost forgoten.
But he later reappeared again as from what records have been able to tell he made his way out to a Federation colony somewhere at some point and due to certain circumstances he joined the Maquis.
When the end of Maquis came about he decided that he liked the lifestyle, he had developed gained from what he had experienced he decided to embrace it and thus became a criminal.

Cyrus Grissim is primarily concerned with himself and with his own advancement, he has no doubts and no compunctions about harming others to get what he wants, but he has been known to go out of his way from time to time to cause carnage or mayhem when there is no direct benefit to it other than his own personal enjoyment.
He has no particular objection to working with others or, for that matter, going it on his own. His only interest is in getting ahead. If there is a quick and easy way to gain a profit, whether it be legal, questionable, or obviously illegal, he would take advantage of it.
