I am writing to you in order to recommend Lt. Commander Jade Conway for the position of instructor at Starfleet Academy.
I first met this officer while serving as captain of the USS Tyler, where Commander Conway, then a young lieutenant JG, came aboard in the capacity of exobiologist and exoarcheologist in our sciences department. As any good captain would, I made it a point to know every member of my crew, however it did not take long for this young woman to stand out. Because of her excellent comportment, she would often be asked by my science officer to present reports at staff meetings. I also made it a habit to work closely with my sciences department, often in the labs, sleeves rolled up alongside my junior officers, and as such have a detailed, first hand knowledge of Commander Conway's skills, demeanor and ethic.
Like many of my former officers, she has kept in touch and I have followed her career with interest. It came as no surprise when she told me she was applying for the position for which I now recommend her to you.
Without waxing philosphic or indulging in any uneccessary expositon, let me simply state that she is a fine and devoted officer, whose work has done much to advance our understanding of exobiology and her other areas of study. A more talented and qualified instructor for our young cadets I cannot think of.
My compliments to you, admiral, for the fine young officers we have seen in the fleet recently as new graduates of the academy. With Commander Conway on your staff I believe that this trend can only continue, if not indeed improve.
