Biography

Early Life

Born on Starbase 13 in early 2344 to Ensign Thomas Williams and Lieutenant T'rel, Tak'ta spent most of his early years as many children of Starfleet officers do following their parents from assignment to assignment on whatever starbase or planet it was their parents found themselves assigned to.

In 2355 the age of 11 his life would undergo a major change when his Vulcan mother, who was at the time serving as the Operations Officer of the scout ship USS Orlando, was killed leading an away team on what was supposed to be a routine survey mission leaving his human father as his sole parent.

Young Tak'ta would be raised almost exclusively by his Human father, who married another Human when Tak'ta was 17, giving him only sporadic contact with T'rel's Vulcan family. This left Tak'ta possessing the mental disciplines of a Vulcan teenager well into his adult years along with the tendency to openly show emotion.

Entering Starfleet Academy after graduating high school Tak'ta showed a great aptitude towards sciences and quickly fell into the rhythm of being a Starfleet cadet. Graduating 7th in his class he was given a rather choice assignment to the Nebula-class USS Anasazi as head of Space Sciences. During which time he received outstanding marks on all of his officer reviews and was often noted for the fact that his study of Astrophysics and Stellar Cartography went beyond just a job becoming a personal passion which he pursued even in his spare time. In 2366 he was promoted to Lt. (J.G.) and reassinged to USS Excalibur NCC-26517.

This passion and drive to learn and explore the unknown allowed him to take advantage of a rare opportunity for young officers when in early 2368 he was offered to take a one year temporary assignment as a visiting professor of Space Sciences at Trill Science Academy on the Trill home world. At the end of his year Tak'ta applied for an extension on his post at the University, a request which was approve allowing Tak’ta to spend the 2369 teaching Space Sciences at Trill Science Academy.

In early 2370 Tak'ta was promoted to full Lieutenant and made Chief Science Officer of the newly commissioned Galaxy Class USS Haven NCC-55459 under the command of Captain Norm Lidell. This would place nearly 150 Scientist of all disciplines under his supervison. In 2371 Captain Lidell nominated Tak'ta for Advanced Tactical Training with a class slot being allocated to him as part of the first class to graduate in 2372.

Dominion War

During the Dominion War Tak'ta and the USS Haven would take part in some of the most violent actions of that war including a Second Fleet action in 2373 which surprisingly destroyed the Cardassian shipyards on Torros III. During 2374 Second Fleet took extraordinarily heavy casualties, reducing the fleet to one third of its original size. This gave Tak'ta another monumental chance after the first officer of the USS Haven was transferd to take command of another ship whose commanding officer and first officer had been killed in action and Tak'ta was made acting First Officer over a span of almost six months. During his time Tak'ta led two ground actions against the Dominion, one offensive and one defensive.

In early 2374 he commanded a hastily assembled and executed assault to retake a communications outpost which had been overrun by the Dominion on a small moon orbiting Farrell IV. The second action occurred in mid 2374, when while leading a small science team on a survey mission on Raxis Prime, a class Y planet, a number of Jem'hadar fighters forced the USS Haven to retreat back to the main position of the Second Fleet leaving Tak'ta and the scientists to fend for themselves.

During the next four days Tak'ta, making use of the skills he'd picked up during Advanced Tactical Training, and his group of a dozen science officers hid and engaged in skirmish battles with nearly a brigade of Jem'hadar soldiers. At the end of the 4 days the USS Haven backed up by the USS Patton, USS Tzu and USS Fredrickson managed to fight their way back to the moon and rescue Tak'ta and his team.

During the Haven’s assignment to investigate the Son’a incident in the Brier Patch Tak'ta was given a temporary commission in the Klingon Defense Force and assigned as Chief Science Officer aboard the Klingon scout ship IKS tIQ'wa‎, under the command of HoD Qahoime. The assignment to a Klingon vessel during a time of war had a major impact on Tak'ta's life as he thrived, eventually being embraced by the Klingon crew for his performance in battles of mid and late 2375. It was during this time he also picked up what would become a life long hobby, the study of Mok'bara or the Klingon style of hand-to-hand combat.

As part of the preparation for the push on Cardassia in late 2375 USS Haven was pulled its humanitarian mission in the Brier Patch and assigned to the fleet which would take part in the Battle of Cardassia Prime. As a medical ship, the USS Haven remained in orbit around Cardassia even after the end of the war, helping to rehabilitate the planet and population, however Tak'ta was given the chance to attend the official surrender of Dominion Forces aboard Deep Space Nine at the end of 2375.

At the end of the war Tak'ta was decorated by Starfleet with the Starfleet Award for Valor after his actions leading the science team on Raxis Prime and the Grankite Order of Tactics for the 2374 assault to retake the lost communications post on Farrell IV as well as a promotion to Lt. Commander. Tak'ta would also be recognized by the Klingons with the Medal of Achievement for his work as Science Officer aboard the IKS tIQ'wa well as receiving reserve commission in the Klingon Defense force at the rank of ra'wl' Sogh. In addition to the promotion Tak'ta was made a full member of the House Thlol Rop by HoD Qahoime.

The USS Haven and its crew would spend the next four years as a major part of the humanitarian work on and around the Cardassian homeworld, spending on average nine of every twelve months in orbit of that planet functioning as a base of operations for the Federation humanitarian efforts.

Tak'ta, having made a favorable impression on HoD Qahoime, would from time to time find himself loaned out during the Klingon's scout and exploration missions as the Haven and crew focused mostly on medical and reconstruction work, and in 2378 was given the rare honor of serving as HoD Qahoime's House Representative at his wedding. By 2379 the Cardassian Government had started to reject all outside help from the Federation and its allies in the rebuilding effort resulting in the USS Haven being reassigned to general fleet operations.

2381 witnessed Tak'ta's completion of his PhD in Astrophysics and Quantum Physics through extension courses taken aboard the USS Haven. In 2382 Captain Lidell was promoted to Commodore and reassigned as head of Starfleet Humanitarian Operations and at his request the ship's long serving first officer was promoted to Captain. The new commanding officer of the Haven was given a pick of several command level officers to fill the position of first officer aboard the ship, however all were rejected out of hand and Tak'ta was requested by name to fill that position along with a promotion to full Commander.

He would fill this position for only three years when, at the end of 2385, the USS Haven put into spacedock for its 15 year refit, a process which would take a year as nearly every major system aboard the ship would be overhauled.

Now Commander Tak'ta was given the option of taking a First Officer position aboard another starship or a teaching position as Senior Professor of Sciences at Starfleet Academy on Earth. Remembering the enjoyment he had derived from his short stint as a professor on Trill 16 years earlier, as well as the chance to be near his half brother who lived on Luna, Tak'ta took the position on Earth.

In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities Tak'ta would find time to work alongside some of Starfleet's best engineers and scientist over the next six years on Project Marathon, the ongoing Federation project to create a practical transwarp engine for starships. His work would lead to a break through in the creation of stable transwarp gateways which would earn him a 2391 Zee-Magnees Prize nomination.

In 2391 his teaching tour was coming to an end and Tak'ta started to look for his next position, becoming head of Starfleet Science which would come with a promotion to Captain was shaping up to be the most likely scenario when he was nominated to take command of the newly constructed USS Pegasus.

USS Pegasus

After assuming command of the Pegasus Tak'ta and crew underwent a three month shakedown cruise which was cut short after only 33 days when the Pegasus was selected as part of Task Force 12 which was being assembled to address an Klingon incursion into Federation Space. A Klingon Fleet of 70 ships had crossed the broader three days prior and taken over Research Post 24 in an attempt to capture secrets from what they had falsely assumed was a Starfleet reconnaissance post. Six Federation civilian scientist had been captured and the 23 ship strong Task Force 12 was dispatched, despite being outnumbered better 3-to-1. The battle which ensued was as bloody as any of the Dominion War of 30 years prior. Ultimately the Klingons lost 50 ships destroyed or damaged beyond salvage with the Federation Fleet losing 11 of its own ships, the deciding factor had been the fact that the Klingon Fleet was made up of mostly older Birds-of-Prey and K't'inga Class Cruisers with a few newer ships filling out the fleet. Once the Klingon Fleet had been driven off a full company of Klingon Marines remained aboard Research Post 24 and with the losses sustained by the Federation Fleet combine with the likelihood of a Klingon counter attack the task force commander could muster only a handful of Federation Marines and Tactical Officers to liberate the scientist, Tak'ta was selected to command the boarding party due to his experiences during the Dominion War. All six scientist were recovered alive at high cost to Tak'ta's forces with fighting degenerating into close quarters hand to hand fighting more then once, including at one point Tak'ta himself defeating a Klignon Sword Master in hand-to-hand combat. At the end of the day the out post was badly damaged but under Federation control, all scientist safely aboard the medical ship U.S.S. McCoy and the Pegasus was cited with the destruction of 4 Klingon warships. For his actions in the safe recovery of the civilian scientist Tak'ta was awarded the Karagite Order of Heroism.

L-R Capt. Mark Newport, Commander Tak'ta, Commander Adam Wershil in 2382
Tak’ta has over the years demonstrated great aptitude towards all disciplines of Science with a special attention paid to space sciences as evidenced by his twin degrees in Astrophysics and Stellar Cartography. His motives and abilities in these fields go far beyond simple competent understanding or minimum understanding required to perform his standard job tasks as a Starfleet Science Officer but extend into the realm of personal drive to understand and explore the unknown. From even early in his life with Starfleet Tak’ta was proven an able and eager leader ready to take the initive when and where it was needed with a leadership style which is very situational flexible. In general his command style has been relaxed and familiar with his subordinates however he is able of in-depth tactical thought and aggressive, almost vicious command when in combat situations as evidenced by his performance in the Dominion War. This should not be felt to be surprising given the powerful emotions Vulcans are known to possess combine with the fact that though his mental discipline has been greatly enhanced over the years he is still considerably more openly emotional then most Human/Vulcan hybrids. In the years immediately fallowing the Dominion War Tak'ta suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder mostly relating to the battle of Farrell IV however over the years the severity of his case has waned through his study of traditional Vulcan meditation.

Even beyond the relm of Sciences Tak’ta has perused Mok'bara in the years sense his posting aboard a Klingon Ship during the Domion War and has even served as an instructor in unarmed combat during his time as a professor at Starfleet Academy. He is a known lover of 20th Century Terrain Jazz and the Modernist Art which accompanied the Jazz movement of that planet. He has over the years cultivated more than a passing interest in military history often recreating famous battles from the history of many worlds on the holodecks however his favorite holodeck program remains Terrain Rally and Tour Car Programs as well as Klingon calisthenics. Over the years Tak’ta has formed several long term and committed relationships with women generally of some accomplishment within the scientific community however his career with in Starfleet and pursuit of scientific exploration has generally taken priority and as such he has remained a bachelor well into his mid-sixties. He remains close to his Father and Half-Brother both of whom live on Earth’s Moon, generally spending most of his shore leave there.
