The USS Courageous (NCC-94120) was a refitted Prometheus-class Federation starship commissioned in 2408, Commanded by Daniel T. Johnson. It is the command ship of Second Fleet's prestigious Combat and Strategic Command.

History
The USS Courageous has come to be known as Starfleet's 'Ship of Wonder', this title is due to her being fitted with experimental and revolutionary hardware created by the finest Starfleet engineers in the Federation. This includes Regenerative Transwarp coils reverse engineered from Borg technology, Regenerative Shielding System, Ablative Hulling, a Federation Cloaking Device, Transphasic Torpedo Launchers, Advanced Precision Tactical Sensors, Defensive Plasma Ordinance and Emergency Combat Holograms (ECH). The ship is a refitted Prometheus Class starship, which has been best to try out these new marvels due to the ships flexibility and ease in upgrades and modifications. The ship was first launched in 2408 and is commanded by Daniel T. Johnson, he was awarded command after he received the Christopher Pike Medal of Valour and due to his outstanding carrier and actions on both the USS Titan and USS Sovereign. Daniel's crew are seen as the best of the best, not only noted by himself, but by Starfleet Command.
They have preformed to the highest degree, becoming not only a well established unit of order and co-operation, but becoming a well fitted family, one of friendship and loyalty. The USS Courageous is the command ship of Second Fleet's Combat and Strategic Command and is tasked with the safety and well being of the Federation. She is seen as a ship of peace bringing ends to conflicts and bringing stability to many worlds. The ship does on occasion go on missions of exploration and diplomacy, which has helped the Courageous become known through many parts of the Federation and beyond. The ship and her Captain have gained friends on many worlds, notably the Klingon Empire and even the Romulans. Vice Admiral Johnson believes that one day there can be a peace between old enemies and peace shall be the most successful legacy of the Federation.
Notable Engagements
Although the Courageous has been on many missions of exploration and diplomacy, the ship is primarily one of Combat and protection. In early 2408 on a routine patrol of the Romulan Neutral Zone, the USS Courageous was engaged by fanatical Romulan loyalists, who were a secret order to stop any diplomacy or relations between Romulus and the Federation. The Courageous, out numbered by three warbirds, was attacked without provocation, out numbered and out gunned. However the Courageous would soon live up to her name when her captain used wit and tactic, he ordered the ship in the defensive manoeuvre, pattern Kirk epsilon and spun the ship firing a repeating anti matter spread scrambling the warbirds sensors, he then moved the ship at high impulse in a nearby sensor blinding nebula, becoming hidden for a few minutes, he then engaged the multi vector assault mode and attacked the three warbirds with speed and valour. The ships each used their experimental weapons and joint attacks weaving between the warbirds, destroying two of the Romulan ships. Soon the last retreated back into Romulan space ending the skirmish. Due to the quick response of the courageous crew and her commander, the battle was won and only minor damage to the Courageous was inflicted.
One other instance of conflict was during the transportation of the Federation Ambassador Valen Trall to the warring worlds of Vaytian and Kalos in the Gamma Quadrant. The USS Chariot was attacked by Kalosian attack fighters, who were trying to stop the Ambassador from reaching the conference on Vaytian, the ship was under heavy attack however unknown to themselves, the Courageous was hidden using the Shadow Dawn cloaking device. she decloaked and skimmed dangerously close to the USS Chariot, firing all phasers at the attacking vessels. The ships soon retreated allowing the peace treaty to be signed between the two worlds bringing an era of peace. The leader of the hostile Kalos faction Katrin Saleth, was sentenced to a Kalosian penal colony for his crimes.
In late 2408 the Courageous was boarded by a hostile swarm of space dwelling lifeforms, known as the Xenthax. Their bodies were coated with an unusual chemical residue which could penetrate any energy shielding and ablative hulling. They feed on energy produced by the Warp Core. Alone in an uncharted sector of the Gamma Quadrant the crew had to fight deck to deck, wiping away the alien threat. Luckily the ship was fitted with the new Emergency Combat Holograms (ECH) which could move around the entire ship with easy due to the Multi Emitter arrays located on all decks. The crew and the ECHs fought off the attack and left the region at high Transwarp, however they did leave a warning buoy on the edge of the system informing all ships of the Xenthax threat.
These are just a few examples of the conflicts the USS Courageous and her crew have been faced with, but they have done with honour and bravery, which they will always do in times of crisis.
Courageous Squadron Alpha
The USS Courageous contains a exceptional squad of 8 Federation Valkyrie class fighters, this small band of fighters was formed by Vice Admiral Johnson in mid 2408, when he was the rank of Captain, and was named 'Courageous Squadron Alpha'. These small but powerful one manned vessels help to intercept small enemy ships an provide a back up to the USS Courageous in hostile situations, Vice Admiral Johnson himself picked a handful of pilots to undertake these bold tasks in which being a part of Second Fleet's, Alpha Combat Division would face. He himself pilots the lead fighter and normally leads the squad through tough missions, such as the Conflict at Athos in which Gel'dathi Raiders attacked a Federation medical convoy during the outbreak of Plasma plague on Kailan IV, the USS Courageous was swarmed by the Gel'dathi who use Bio-weapons, interfering with shield regeneration. Vice Admiral Johnson and the Courageous Squadron where launched and soon drove the raiders out of the Athos system after a valiant skirmish. Although now a Vice Admiral, Johnson continues to lead the fighters into battle and will continue to do so whatever the situation.
Vice Admiral Johnson believes the fighters efficiency provides that extra means of protection and offensive capabilities when the brave crew of the USS Courageous themselves are faced with unrelenting odds in unyielding hostile situations in order to protect the very foundations and core beliefs in which the Federation stands for. Due to the success this fighter Squadron has had, Starfleet is now looking into making these fighters a part of all Combat ships. The squad have been nicknamed 'Defenders of the fleet' by other Federation personal, this due to the brave and bold actions by the pilots and quick tactical thinking in the time of battle. The creation and actions of Courageous Squadron Alpha have been recognized by Starfleet, with the awarding of the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor. The Squadron continues to protect the USS Courageous, Second Fleet and the Federation, with honour and dignity.
